i just got an 89 w250 with the 5.9 cummins and TF727. it has the dana 60 kingpin up front, but im not 100% sure if this is the dana 70 or what gear ratio it is. also, im looking for a disk brake kit for the rear because i absolutely hate drum brakes. what kit will work with this rear axle?
That is an original 3.07 ratio Dana 70 axle. (aka Dana '71'; casting corners extend past diff cover on pass side)
If any of the 727 or 3.07 ratio won't be in your future, I'd look for a different rear axle that already has discs. That axle is not easily re-geared. They are also 3-5" too narrow for the truck IMO (depending on wheel choice.)
That would be a Dana 70 with 3.07 gears since it has the 3 speed automatic, unless someone has changed things. Don't know on the disc conversion, searching online or in the sticky should get you results. I too hate drums, especially inboard ones.
it already has wheel spacers to widen it out. i only plan to use it as my daily and to tow what used to be my daily (2011 jku on 40" nittos and one tons) so she isnt going to get extensive drivetrain modification.

I haven't found a disc kit I liked enough for what it cost. So at that point, an affordable weld-on generic bracket looks good. I don't mind spacers, but not on the payload end of a truck that hauls/tows. There's also the puny 1/2" studs on the Dodge.
I picked up a couple disc diffs so I can either swap complete, or graft parts from. Or I may consider swapping a diff with slide-off drums for easier brake service.
Upgrading to a hydroboost set-up will improve the braking...almost night and day difference! Anyone who has done it, myself included, says that it is one of the best upgrades to their 1st Gen for safety and driveablity.
