Smile Which rear axle is on 1992 3500 4WD?

I just purchased a 1992 3/4 ton 4wd automatic which I am going to pull in work stock this summer. I am having a pulling valve body and pulling torque converter installed and want to have a Dana 80 instead of the 70 it has now. I found a 1992 1 ton 4wd for sale one state over and was wondering if the rear axle is a Dana 80 and if there might be anything else on the 1 ton I might benefit from on my 3/4 ton. Thanks in advance for your help gentlemen!

Nope, all the 1st gen diesels had Dana 70s in the rear. 2nd gen 2500s with manual transmissions had Dana 80s as did all 3500s.

Other than the dual rear wheels (maybe) and 3" brake shoes it is the same truck.

Thanks very much. Would the 1994-2002 3/4 manual gas trucks also have the dana 80 and will all 3500's have the dana 80?

They started with the 80 in '96 I think. There is no need to upgrade to the 80 unless you break the 70, lots of guys pull heavy loads with the 70 with no problems.

If I remember right, only the manual equipped V10 2500 trucks had the 80. I think all the 3500s did too, even the few V8 equipped trucks.
