1992 Dodge W350 Dually Rear Axle

Good morning all,

I have a 1992 Dodge W50 Dually with a flatbed on it. I have split the drivers side rear spindle where the threads are located. Can this be repaired? Also i have been looking for a used replacement Axle, I'm asked what is the ratio of my axle the tag on it says 3.54 if I'm reading it correctly but I'm told that that is not correct because Dodge does not make a 3.54 Axle any help is appreciated.

Thank You

Most certainly Dodge made the 3.54 gear ratio. There were 4.10 and 3.54's available on 1st Gens. The early 89-91 Non-IC truck could also get a 3.07 gear ratio.

As for repair...I would think the only option on that would be to go to a drive line shop and see if they could remove, and weld in a new axle tube. Probably could be done...BUT what would the cost be compared to buying a complete replacement axle.

If you don't mind my asking, what did it take to do that kind of damage?

I had my brakes done, I was driving about a week later and the wheel axle come out and the truck dropped on the axle and split it. From what I can see the locking pin was not put back in so the bolt came unscrewed of course according to them they put the pin back in.

Neither the pin or the nut is supposed to be re-used. At any rate, they have admitted that they did not PROPERLY put it in, or it would not have come undone.

Most of us replace them with the double nut setup.

Brings back memories of the "good old days" before dual circuit brakes. As you watch your rear wheels walk away from the truck in the mirror, you feel absolutely no resistance to pressure on the brake pedal.

YUP.... They are at fault for not replacing the nylock nut and keeper. It's required, and says so in the fsm. It won't hold once it's been removed..... or at least that's what I've read.

Look in the classifieds here (up above on the page). Someone here might be parting out a truck you could purchase a diff from..

Situations like these give me an excuse to upgrade....

IMO, spend your $$$ on a Dana 80 from a 94+ truck. That's what's going into my W250 (only because it needs brakes lol)
