Hey fellas, as some may know, my truck frame got all bent outa shape, so i have been looking for anther truck..... so far not much has come up in my price range... till i found a 92 ctd 2wd 1ton 4dr!! it supposedly was a diesel and the guy put a 440 in it, my question is... how difficult would the swap be? i have my 1990 4x4 still, so couldnt i just swap all the suspension and steering stuff over? besides swapping trans mounts and cross members is there anything different on the 2wd frames? im a welder by trade and a hotrodder, so custom stuff isnt going to stop me, just wanna know how custom im gonna have to get? thanks and if the deal goes through i will definantly be putting this conversion on here! pics and all thanks

Sweet, looking forward to the build .
The crew cab was not built after 85-86 so the 92 sounds odd.
As for the conversion it should be strait forward , all bolt in.

 

wont be all bolt in you will have to drill a few holes in the frame because the 2wd frame didnt have the same steering box and if i remember right from when we did my buddies conversion the leaf springs might need holes drilled also but over all it was a easy conversion

 

supply the truck's and I could have it done within 3 week's or less for you there easy to do

Good score on the find. I have a friend in StLouis who converted his cherry 2wd to a 4x4. Says he'll never do it again, but is glad he did this time.

Sweet, well if i do get the truck (dont have it yet) im definantly doing the conversion!, as for what it really is (diesel or gas) from the factory im not sure, but i remember talk of dodge building these trucks for the government (military, public works) and so on, but they are very rare. It has the 92 body style and grill.... i have seen one other 92 crewcab 4x4 1ton, dont remember who had it but its black and was SICK! i think the owner is on here somewhere???

well raer or not if you bolt on a 93 frontend onto a crewcab you can make it look like it's a 93 but Dodge didn't make a crecab longbed for the gov Ive been buying car's from them for the last 20 some odd yr's look's like someone just put a frontend on it and titled it as a 93 but either way it would be a fun and Easy build

Yup.... its a possibilty. I actually just got off the phone with the owner, i guess its an 85' with the 92' front end and dash. It has 95-97' or newer front seats and rear. straight body, but was never a diesel. Just has diesel tags, since the front end and dash are form a 92 diesel. So if its not sold tomarrow im going to take a look at it. But since it was never a diesel.... will the wiring harness in the engine compartment even work??? i doubt it.... and will the harness off my truck work in this one?? thanks

The easy part is getting the harness from your diesel over on to that one or at least getting the electrical straightened out as you wish. The hard part (!) is converting to 4x4...

 

heck converting to 4x is simple as long as you have the right tool's

 

Well for me the 4x4 conversion would probably be easier, ive done welding and custom fabrication for years. Im curious though about the wiring.... will i have to use the wiring from my dash and engine compartment? or just the wiring harness form my engine compartment?

well Nice thing is everything from your donor will slip right back into the crewcab wireing and all piece of cake if you have Fab work under yer belt
