re-attaching trim

A piece of my door-ding trim started hanging off today . Anybody have any luck sticking it back on any particular way? (Please - no speculators here - I need info from someone who has made it stick.)

-Thanks

Ya know, I thought about running screws down the whole side... I like the "semi-gnarled" look.

If you are talking about exterior trim, I have used 3M double sided tape. It has held up and is designed for exterior trim. Any auto parts store will have it.

Clean off the surfaces with alcohol. Clear silicone and masking tape to hold it in place (for 24 hours) will work also.

I have sometimes used 3M Emblem glue to repair some of the exterior parts. Along with my old shoes and many other household items

Duct tape!

I'm not to crazy about the silicone either. I think it tends to let go after being exposed to sunlight. 3M weatherstripping cement will stick just about anything to anything.

The double sticky tape is probably your best bet though.

I cleaned the poop from the old adhesive off of the truck with alcohol and used 3m trim adhesive. This time I followed the directions and it worked great. The trick - a thin layer of adhesive.

Well, if you read the instructions and do it right, how are WE going to have any fun?

Thanks for letting us know what to use. I have a paint job coming up and I'm thinking I'll need to strip everything off.

Do you think the adhesive would work on chrome? -

Thanks for the update on the adhesive ouchman. Just got my truck back from the paintshop and it looks good (cab only). I had removed all removable pieces before sending it in. Had the glass shop come and remove the windshield at the shop prior to paint - and reinstalled a new windshield and rubber grommet after the paint was done (original had some wonderful star cracks). I also ordered a new grill shell as the old one was cracked and had some small pieces missing.

However, the replacement grill does not have the letters on it. It looks like I can remove the 'Dodge' lettering from the old grill and I hope to put it on the new grill using emblem adhesive or tape?

What do you think? Anyone have experience with this?

Not too sure if it would work there - maybe a 2-part epoxy? I know that good adhesion depends a lot on cleaning the surface with alcohol first.

I tend to agree. I will worry the problem a little more first - measure twice, cut once philosophy. Toying the idea of grinding where the letters go with a dremel very carefully and then using expoxy or emblem adhesive. I think that will have the best chance of surviving the elements down the road.

Thanks for the opinion... When I feel well enough to do the job (probably coincide with better weather) I will document with pictures and post what I did...
