Question for chassis cab owners
Question for chassis cab owners
My truck has a sticker in the driver's door frame saying that it "conforms to requirements" and says something to the effect of "Cab and chassis over 10,000 gvw". Nothing stating axle weight ratings or GVW limit.
Where is that sticker supposed to be? I checked under the hood also and it's got all the belt routing diagrams, etc., but no GVW sticker. My truck used to be a rollback (I'm making it a flatbed car hauler) and has lots of extra leaves in the rear springs. The rear tires alone are rated for over 10k, I assume the axle is 10k, but GVWR for a brand new 3500 HD is still only 12.5k, which isn't a whole lot when you want to have a car on the back of the truck AND be DOT legal...
Basically, what can I do about this? Ideally I'd like up to 13.5k GVWR (planning on 19.5's or at least 3,042 rated tires), but it's GOTTA be legal.

It'll carry the weight, it just isn't rated for it. As far as the state is concerned, as long as you have the registration and the tires for the weight you are legal.
If your rear springs are 10 leaf they are rated for 7,600 lbs.

yah, in cali with altered bed trucks they go by the tire rating, not gvw. if you can afford the registration. I got to come up with over 400bucks by april to get the 15,000-20000 class.
