Pyro. quit
The real good pyrometers only have two wires connected to a K-type probe.
The probe can burn out which is usually evident in the sharp tip being burned off.
The probe is considered an expendable and is available at any decent truck parts store for about thirty bucks.

The gauge is;

That is on the face of the gage. It failed after a farley hard run on the interstate. Hard is relevant but it was for my truck as I mostly drive in town below 50 MPH.
Thanks, Mike

The Hewitt pyros are unpowered which makes this very simple. Check the connection between the probe and the gauge. If that connection is tight, use a voltmeter to check the thermocouple. Use the mV scale on your meter, it should be somewhere around 3 mV with the engine cold. Start the truck and let it idle, the voltage should go up to around 7 - 8 mV. If there is no voltage or it does not go up when the truck is running, the thermocouple is dead. If the thermocouple works, the gauge is obviously the problem.

Do you do this test with the probe leads still connected to the gauge, or do you dis-connect the leads and keep the gauge out of the loop ??
