Talking pulling a518

im pulling my a518 out of my 91.5 4x4 and the previous owner put a 2 in spacer in between the transmission crossmember and the frame. the truck has 6 in skyjacker springs. could i leave them out when i put it back in or did he do it so he didnt have to lengthen drivelines? thanks

He probably did it to help with the driveline angles. I'd put them back if they aren't causing any other issues.

the front driveshaft has a spacer, it almost looks like if i took them out it would help with the rear driveshaft angle

Well you can try it both ways. Measure, and calculate your working angles and see what they are. If the angles come out good without the spacer, then your good to go.

My 1993 W250 has an OEM steel saddle riveted to the crossmember that raises the transmission mounts about 2" above the crossmember (see photo). Is it possible your crossmember is missing the saddle and the spacers are used to make up the difference?

Now, that makes perfect sense. I have a a518 out of a 92 CTD that came with the cross member still bolted to it. But, it doesn't have that saddle. Now, I know why my 241 hangs lower than it should.
I'll be looking for that cross member. James, can I borrow your pic?

Yes mine is missing the saddle as well. I'm not sure where I could find one though?

Hey Guys, after putting the question of that cross member to a very knowledgeable Mopar guy, I got the scoop on it.
The cross member with the saddle, or support plate, was used on the Cummins and 1 ton trucks because the frames are taller than the half ton and Ramcharger trucks and used to make up the difference in height between the frames.
I think that may include the 3/4 ton trucks too. But, not positive.

Getting back to the original question, assuming you have a 91.5 factory Cummins truck, it came from the factory with that cross member. If it doesn't have that cross member, the height difference would have had to be made up with some kind of spacers.

My dad bought my W250 new and it came OEM with the saddle. The difference seems to be that the trucks with 7" frame rails came with the saddle and those trucks with 6" frame rails came without the saddle (see the attached excerpt from the Mopar parts catalog). Someone here will chime in here and enlighten us as to which year model trucks came with 6" rails and which came with 7" rails. The Mopar part number for the steel saddle seems to be: 4447 201.
