power window issues

since i bought the truck i could move the passenger and driver window up and down by hand. if you push the up or down control you can hear the motor working but doesn nothing. the previous owner said both windows fell down after hitting a big bump in the road. i pulled the door panel today and couldnt come up with anything. i think ive narrowed it down to the regulator or the motor. whats your guys two cents?

Rebuild your motors. Look in The Sticky for a full write-up on just this kind of issue. The small planetary bushings have disintegrated and aren't actuating the gear that acts on the regulator to move the windows up and down.

Okay I'll take it apart and see how bad the gear is. You know of anywhere to find a replacement gear?

I pulled the window motor and pulled the cover and gave it power and the drive gear from the motor was not engaging the large plastic gear. I'm guessing over time the plastic gear wears out and no longer engages. I ordered 2 new gears, hope it fixes it. I was messing with the driver window and knocked the roller nearest the handle off the hinge and couldn't get it back on. You know an easy way to get it back on the tract?

Did you get an answer about the spring? Mine popped out too and I'm scratching my head!
