Power window issues

Guys

ive tried this in the past before with no luck and no understanding, I dont do well with electronics, But here are my symptoms. My drivers window opens all the time when i ask it to, from the driver control though, the passenger will not open anymore at all, i have to lower it using the passenger side control and then the drivers control for the passenger window works (when it wants to) for a little while. then it dont work again anymore. I got sick and tired of these issues already, i want to lower the windows and i cannot anymore at times.

My guess is that the little motors are bad, or some wiring is off somewhere, what do you guys suggest that i do? im stumped....

Tx

I doubt its the motors. If it were, then they wouldn't work at all. Plus, you don't wanna replace those, kinda pricey. My guess would be some type of wiring issue. Take off the panels and use a voltmeter to see if you're getting consistant current. If so, then try cleaning the connections. If water gets in there, and it does alot of the time, then maybe there's some type of build up around them.

If that doesn't work, clip the wires and use 2 long wires coming from your battery to see if the motor works. If not, then it might be the motor. Just a guess.

Just fixed mine.

Take off the door panel, remove the switch assembly. Open the switch assembly, carefully.
Clean the contacts (carefully) with some sandpaper or better yet get some contact cleaner spray from Radio Shack.
Put everything back together and make sure you buy some wind deflectors for your windows. KEEP THE RAIN OFF THE SWITCHES!

I wondered if they could be taken apart! My pass switch only works when you raise the window... anytime the wife wants hers down, I have to lower it from my side of the cab.
What all is involved in getting the switch apart? Does it just have some metal tabs that are bent over, or is it more complex than that?

the window switches should pop out from the outside. no need to remove the trim panel. my guess is the switch/switches. i would relpace them first. they tend to go out often mostly from slamming the doors or heavy use. i replace alot of them during the summer months.

I lost all function on my drivers window, of course it quit when it was down. I had to pull the panel off to get to the connector to the motor and apply 12 volts to raise it (temp jumper wires from the battery). Switch the pos/neg wires and the window goes down, very simple.

This is correct, just pop them out with a flat blade screw driver. I got mine from dodgeparts.com for 20+ bucks.

Mine did the samething this summer, I was going to change the switches and got a friend of mine to buy it for me (works at auto warehouse). He said the a guy at work said its just the contacts, its very common. So I took the switch out and sprayed them with elect. cleaner and it work!

when I first bought my truck only the drivers side window would operate, none of the switches would operate the passenger side window. I removed the switches and proceeded to clean the contacts, but then i noticed that the contacts had lost some spring therefore not making good contact. this would cause the contacts to arc and thus cause a dirrty contact. After slightly bending the contacts to match the driver side window swicth ( and of course cleaning all contacts and even the pins that plug into switches from wiring harness) now my windows work flawlessly. If you happen to run into this problem again this may be worth looking into.

I agree with everyone who said to check the switches....but before you go throwing parts at your truck....grab a DVOM or a buddy that has one and check the continuity of the switch. That should isolate the problem....cuz it can be either switch causing the problem.
