Cruise control question ?

Hello,
New to the sight, with a cruise control question regarding a 1990 ram 2500, 5 speed manuel, s/cab, 4x2.
At the moment the truck has an inoperable Sears cruise control and i was wondering if Dodge for that given year had a factory option, and if not would anyone know what my options are. Great sight by the way.
Thanks,
Rod

Yes, cruise was available but scaring up the parts is gonna be tough. Cruise was part of a package that included a tilt column, and without the tilt column you can't install the steering wheel switches.

I'd use another aftermarket cruise setup. Ignore the fact that they say "not for diesels" all over them. They use vacuum servos to run the throttle, and diesels don't make vacuum. However, our trucks have a vacuum pump, so vacuum operated cruise works just fine.

Wow, Very nice truck

Yea tyring to find cruise switches in Pre 91 trucks is a pain, seems theres always more 92-93's getting parted out with the different steering wheel/switches.

w_& C_,

Thanks for the replies, searching the internet I found very little about cruise and that particular year/model, and since I will be using her as a tow vehicle for a 29' Airstream so cruise is important on the long stretches.
I just got the rig a couple weeks ago, and it is a testament to the power of craigslist. Found it on line in Plano ,Tx. , flew from Seattle to Dallas/Ft. Worth
two days later. A 88, 29' Airstream Excella was part of the package, both in as close to mint condition as one can ask for considering the age of both. The truck had 67k miles on the odometer and with the back full of extra's ( seventeen fuel filters at last count, with extra oil, air filters thrown in the mix all mopar.) All for the grand total of 5k$ (truck). Thank you Craig.
Again guy's thanks for the input/help, and as Arnold say's " I'll be back",
hopefully I will be able to contribute something to the site at one point.
Rod

I would look very closely at the wiring of that Sears unit. Could be very simple, wire connector or fuse. Electronic speed controls are expensive from what I have seen.

I would have to go back and look closely at the schematics, but if you could find a cruise although a 92 or 93, you could set switches separately.

'91.5 and '92- '93 trucks used the PCM to run the cruise, not a separate module like the older trucks.

A few years ago I saw a Chrysler factory speed control kit for the non i/c'd trucks on fleabay, it went for an outrageous price. How did these kits function? Were they electric like the aftermarket kits? Anyone have one that was factory add-on?
