Re:Power Problems
When you guys modified your exhaust, guys with stacks in particular, did you have to adjust/modify/remove your smoke shifter?
Re:Power Problems
Hello
paws,
I have had this problem you are talking about for a very long time and I think I am getting closer to finding it.I have a 89 auto with power problem (just removed pump),and a 93 manual.First I checked the lift pump pressure and got around 3psi at full load. I replaced pump and it brought the pressure to 7-8psi.The change made a difference but the change was directly proportional. When it ran bad it wasn't as bad but it was not running like it should. When it ran good the truck would fly.
hey paws when your truck runs good how doese the pedal feel? When mytruck runs good the pedal goes down effortlessly, and when it runs bad you have to literally push the pedal through the floor to get the truck to move. With your truck being manual shift makes it even worse especially from 3 to 4 gear. Do you have a boost gauge? I the banks turbo housing as well as gauges and muffler thinking that could have been the problem, guess again, any way when the truck runs good boost pressure is instant practically at any rpm range in any gear.
I am just telling you my symptoms because i am not sure you have the same problem but it sounds like it.The next thing I did was check the ksb system and every thing checked out wires are okay put thermistor in refrigerator and it checked out ((((the first time)))) and solenoid checked out???? Iremoved my injection pump and injectors and had the looked at. The rebuild shop said pump was ok and the injectors were popping off to early. I was supprised because I thought the advance timming piston was sticking I diddn't the pump was advancing the timming when the pump case pressure was rising. Installed pump and truck ran mint for about a week then it crapped out again. By this time I was pulling my hair out. In the mean time I had bought a new Intake tempurature thermistor and ksb solenoid from the local cummins dealer.
I removed and put the new and old thermistor in the refridgerator for a while than compared the two and luckily the truck was running bad and found that the old thermistor made a open circuit way to early versus the new one. The thermistor is supose to open at 90 degrees F I installed the new switch and the truck ran good but experiencing low power I hope because of the fuel because the injection pump guy gave me some shock treatment for the algea in my fuel tank which is clogging my filters. I also checked the ksb solenoid again and when it is hot it changes resistance so I relaced it today.
So after my long story I would monitor the voltage at the ksb solenoid and make sure that you are geting system voltage also make sure the ksb solenoid is working
p.s. sorry for the length. O! and by the way I found the ff restrictor valve it is located under the first piston return spring.
Re:Power Problems
win,
Thanks for the info. about your truck. No I do not have a boost gauge yet. When the truck seems like it is loosing power the pedal feels no different. I am going to check a few things and I'll write back the results.

Paws
Re:Power Problems
paws,
the ksb solenoid is not my problem. When I get time I am going to check for leaks in the intake seystem there might be a slight leak. The problem may be a lack of boost pressure.

win

Yeah, when I removed my tail pipe and put the stacks on, I shifted the smoke up towards the sky. ;D
