possible to run engine w/out ECM

Is it possible to hook up the engine and run it w/out the ECM?

I scored a 92 auto 4x4 that i pulled the whole drivetrain for a swap into a 77 f150.

Can i run this setup w/out the ECM, my main concern is the auto trans, i know its not electrically controlled, but isn't the OD controlled through the ECM, along with all of my gauges?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

You can run an early model A518 with a lockup TC. That's OD and Lockup TC without a ECM. Scroll down to bottom of the page for instructions.

Hope this helps,

Peace

OD is controlled through PCM but 12v to the wire on the trany for OD and your good to go.

In stock form, these trucks have 12 volts going to the transmission at the overdrive electrical connector, anytime the switch is in the on position.
The ground is controlled, which causes the shift into overdrive. The ground is controlled via the ECM.
In the sticky the is a fix, using the governor oil pressure to control shift into overdrive.

I've read about placing the 727 OD under control with a switch. And replacing the TPS with a resistor ****. My interest is the rest of the motor.

gen 1 12v's are known as a 1 wire motor, pretty basic and old school. 1 hot wire to ignition and your running. What exactly does the ECM control besides the OD. alternator, sensors, fuel, what?

and a 12v ecm search netted me a bunch of nothing. except gen 2 stuff.

Only thing I'm using the PCM for right now is the speedometer. I don't have grid heaters, shutdown solenoid or the WIF sensor in service. Technically, I believe my truck will run without even a battery hooked up if I park it somewhere I can bump start it.

I've been told the speedometer will work with the VSS properly grounded, haven't got around to checking into that yet. It's a fairly simple delete for a 5sp truck w/o cruise.

The PCM does not have anything to do with the fuel system.

Basically the truck will run fine with out it. You need to figure out speedo and rewire for external voltage regulator.(see sticky) Just give 12v to the fuel cut solenoid, starter solenoid, and grid heater relays when you want to start the motor. As far as the trans goes give the org/green wire ground to activate OD. Pretty basic stuff really.

You can use a cable driven speedo I think 89 or 90 was last years for them.

Well I was able to pull the DIY's i will need off of cumminforum.

TPS delete (potentanometer)
12v voltage regulator

I figured the OD was nothing more than completing the circuit.

TPS - which wire is the 12v
OD - which wire is 12v

if that helps: from the engine controller connector, the TPS wire is K22 and it's 18 OR / DB
from that same connector, there are two circuits related to OD. One is the OD lockout solenoid and it is T60 20 OR / LG, and the other is the OD lockout control: T6 20 OR / WT
