Possible ECM problem with weird starting issues!

I bought a 2005 dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel 4x4 6speed manual, laramie edition, pretty loaded with only 27000 miles on it. Here in the last two weeks, i now have 35000 miles on the odo, my truck has been difficult to start. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a skim module but that did not fix the issue.
Now here's the weird part that i have never heard of. If you wait for the heating element light to go off the truck will not start at all, and i'm currently in phoenix where it is always above 95 degrees F, but if i just cycle the key straight to the start position like a gas rig the motor will fire right up and run all day long, has lots of power, good fuel mileage. No codes are being thrown. I figured this would be the place to get an answer. The dealership is trying to put a new computer in my truck for $2k. But i'm not convinced that the issue because the problem got worse after the skim module was replaced. Before the new module it would give me problems intermetantly, but now it's every time. Any ideas?

I got to thinking, and tell me if i'm wrong. When they put the new skim module in would they have programmed it wrong or could there be a delay in the module so that if so much time goes by the skim reads my key as bad? The motor will crank and crank and crank but no start. And the little security light flashes when it's cranking. They also updated my computer to the latest program. Any ideas would be very helpful. I'm at the point now i will try anything before replacing a computer.
