Clutches

Considering buying a used 05 quad cab with a 6 speed, i was wondering with the power of these motors do they have 2 clutch plates in them like a big rig or just 1 ?

i`m a newbie, hope this isn`t a dumb question?

does anyone or everyone speed shift these trucks by the way? or use the clutch to shift?

Thanks, Bob

Welcome to DTR!

These clutches have a single disc. You can get aftermarket dual disc set ups or performance single disc set ups from places like South Bend and Valair.

05 was the year they went to the G56 tranny. it has a dual mass flywheel that is NOT serviceable. best bet would be to go with a southbend like stated above.

My 2007 with the G56 is getting a brand New Valair DD with all the upgrades on Monday. It never slipped or anything just when you start the truck you can feel a vibe that the DMF springs are starting to wear. 80,000 heavy tow miles. I am sure the new one will feel great!

Ok, that is a nice little video

But i still don`t understand what i saw going on there.

I understand how a clutch works but what are they doing or trying to do with this dual mass clutch?

Be more cost effective? Is it quiter? Is it supposed to last longer?

looks like a spring hub on the clutch but they moved it to the flywheel.

Valair DD

Did u have to upgrade the hydralics for the new clutch? though i read or someone told me that you do.

Does the Valair cost the same as the southbend?

Some models of clutches need the hydraulic upgrade some don't. Both South Bend and Valair have some really good information on their websites regarding their clutches, good reads, spend some time checking them out. Prices vary depending on what kind of clutch you are looking to install.
