OK, Who's runnin PODs with a Non-ic. Just curious about the EGTs. Local guy said I may run into problems with to high EGTs. I know i can monitor them with my pyro and right foot. Want to know from guys who have 1st hand knowledge. I have about 1 to 1.5 turns on power screw right now.

Guys with intercooled trucks have problems with high EGT's when they put in POD's.
More turbo would help some, but you won't be able to just hold the pedal down and keep it there in 4th and 5th.

OK, i got POD's with no intercooler, and here is the story....
I have 1.5 turns on the power screw, stock baby H1C, and a BHAF. I can get to 900F post turbo within 15 WOT in 5th. But i can easily control the EGT if i watch it.
I am looking for a intercooler right now because any more fuel and it WILL be a problem. I wonna be do the AFC lever but i can't right now since EGT's are high. If you got a hybrid you could prolly get away with no IC for awhile until you ground the AFC lever, then you'd need it.
Any other Q's just ask..........

When I was nonIC'd and POD's baby h1c, 18cm housing, 38psi of boost and bury the pyro... lots of hot air with the baby h1c. All depends on your right foot, load, and fuel settings. Well worth the money for them though, IC'd or not.
Almost any uprate injector can/will give you EGT issues if you aren't carefull. For example you can improve your air in/air out and that will allow you to 'pull a bit more" out of larger nozzles.
The main issue is the older style heads.
They had a larger injector body which meant that the "meat" around the valve seat area was thinner and prone to cracking if you get 'em too hot.
In the case of the older style engines (89 - 91.5) you REALLY should pay close attention to the 1200*F rule...it's the best way to minimize possible head cracking. The next issue, when combined with larger injectors is timing....that will make a big difference as well.....if you crank lots of timing out of these trucks the heat and timing will take out a head gasket and result in cracking.
The third issue is boost pressures....add in high boost levels and you now have three of the biggest issues that face all our engines but particularly the early ones..

I have Bully Dog "+ 50" injectors in my non I/C rig with some moderate adjustments of the pump (+ 1 1/2 turn of the screw, etc) and have no problems with EGT.
I was also "warned" by several of the performance diesel shops against any injector upgrade because of the danger of the excess heat...but so far so good after 1 year and a half.
The turbo and intake mods may have lowered my EGT a few degrees.
