Stock non-intercooled vs. stock intercooled
My friend just bought a truck today which is a 1990 W250 5-spd with a motor from a 1992 in it. We both went and looked at it this afternoon just before he bought it. It is totally stock except the governor screw is backed out a little. The truck just had the 92 motor planted in it with the getrag rebuilt. It shifted very nice and hardly made noise at all. The truck only has 200,000 KM on it (roughly 125,000 miles). He ended up getting it for $5000 CAN. (roughly $1000 US ). I think it was a steal.
Anyway i took it for a quick drive and wow, stock intercooled trucks are VERY SLOW. When i bought my non-intercooled truck it was totally stock, and it went WAY better then this truck. I understand i had the #18.5 housing instead of the #21 housing, and bigger 9mm injectors but i never thought it would make that much of a difference.
So next weekend, cranking up the pump, putting a #16 housing on it, and gonna bump the timing. I'm sure we'll notice a big change. Myabe i can even talk him into POD'S
I tried to talk him into selling me his intercooler, but no go
Does anyone know anything about head gasket's being stronger on the 91.5-93's compared to the non-intercooled 89-91.0 trucks?

Just had a 89 Engine apart and from what I can tell everything is the same. I don't know how many miles the on I took apart had on it but everything looked really good in the motor.
