The odometer and milage reader that screws into the side of the transfer case is stripped, dont know if its the part that screws in or the female part thats messed up. It screws in about 3 threads and comes loose. Its on a 93 5-speed cummins dually. Can anybody tell me how to go about fixen this?

you may have to replace that speedo gear assembly depending on whats actully stripped, or i believe the male end on the T-case can be un threaded from the t-case and replaced.

I really cant tell which part is stripped. I know you can screw it on about three threads and it pops off and comes loose every time. Sounds like i might have to replace the whole thing.

yes but if you replace the whole one section that comes off and it isent stripped you spent $100+ on a part that wasent a failure, so just take a flash light under there and look inside the female end and then look at the male end. then you will be able to tell

Burris, there are potentially three parts that you could be reffering to, the Gear Housing Assembly, that sits in the Transfer Case itself, the Gear Reducer, which some models use and some dont. or the Variable Speed Sensor.. the same parts that drive the speedometer also drive the odometer.
all three are easy to replace, this article will describe which each is and has a photo of each.. Hope it helps!

Can you place the speedo on the trans instead. It will probably work, just not in 4lo... you may need to move the speedo gear.. anyone know if this would work?
