i just went through this like for the past 3 weeks, figured out yesterday that the asd relay was bad. and some how the starter relay went bad. so just to see if it helps ya go buy 2, 5 pin relay's and replace them both and see if she charges.

I know you said you checked all the wiring, but.........try jumping 12VDC from the battery to the alternator field wire. If the alt doesn't see power, it can't generate voltage!

Well, that's a problem. You should only have 12 volts on the big stud and one of the little studs. The third stud goes to the regulator. If you ground that stud, you should get about 20 volts out of the alternator.

I don't think I can make it any clearer than that diagram. If it's really hooked up like the diagram and the regulator case is screwed to a good ground, then the alternator will charge. Perhaps you are not the best person to work on your truck?

There are 3 posts on the back of the alt two smaller ones and one big one. The big one should have 12v and then another wire should come from a 12v supply and go to the top terminal on the voltage regulator. Then that same wire will continue to one of the small terminals on the alternator. The other small post on the alternator should be connected to the only empty terminal left on the voltage regulator. If you have it wired correctly and there is voltage everywhere there is supposed to be and the voltage regulator is grounded then you either have a bad alt or reg.

try supplying voltage to the large terminal and one of the smaller terminals at the same time. Then ground the second small terminal it should charge like crazy if the alt is good just don't do it for long just a second or two.
