No wait to start
No wait to start
My uncle has a early 91 and his wait to start light doesnt come on and it doesnt sound like the grids are either. Could anybody tell me how to fix this or what the problem could be?
It's probably not cold enough. To check the system, unplug the temp sensor (sticks out the side of the air crossover tube) and turn the key to the run position. The WTS light should come on and the relays should energize. Once you start the truck the WTS light will flash at you.
Well, it is rather warm accros the nation, so I doubt they would kick on.. I think the magical number is 50 degrees and colder give or take a few before they kick on.. Havent seen mine in about a month and I live in Mi
I just bought an 89.
My WTS light also does not come on, but I hear a buzzer (not the door buzzer) that I assume is for the WTS system.
The light only comes on while you crank the engine.
Does the light not come on if it's above 50 degrees?

I tried fixing mine when I got my truck with no luck, I think it turned out to be in the computer, it was so long ago I actually can't remember what the actual problem was. I fixed it by just wiring the relays to a switch on the dash, it was a simple fix that's worked for quite some time now.

ALL you have to do is listen for the click and watch your volt gauge drop to see if the grids are working. It will click on and off, the volt gauge will drop when they kick on and rise when they kick off. I live in Vermont and it's been cold enough here for the grids to come on some mornings.

The non-intercooled trucks only give a WTS light when it's cold enough for the system to operate. Intercooled trucks give a bulb check every time the key is turned on regardless of temperature.
I will add a little info to this, just one more easy item to check. I just went through this on my 93 a couple weeks ago. My problem was a corroded wire that was beyond repair. On the driver fender (on mine anyway) there is a largish connector, check that connector. Check this link, https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...html?p=1407509
I cant get you a good picture of it, but it is one of the wires that comes out of the 4 or 5 wire block in the second picture there. I will go outside and get a picture for you in a few minutes and post it up later this evening. Hopefully it will help.
Keep in mind this is only for the WTS light.
