Next Pump Adjustment?
Next Pump Adjustment?
Well, after a nearly 2 months, I was able to spend some time with the old girl this evening and put 1.5 turns on the fuel screw. While it's *much* better than before
... it still feels like it could use additional tweaking. 1st thru 2nd gears are nice, but 3rd seems to really take a toll on acceleration. Again, the goal is for usable power WITHOUT sacrificing fuel mileage.
Stock:
21mpg highway, 16-17mpg in town
Max Boost: 16-18#
Max EGT: 900*
Now (336 spring, 1.5 turns of fuel screw, and fuel pin spun 1/8th turn toward deepest from center = VERY light haze @ WOT):
Max Boost: 24#
Max EGT: 1100* & climbing (ran out of road
)
I hope to get both the fuel & air filters swapped this weekend (possible BHAF). Several locals say they can tell when the fuel filter is going south (clogged/plugged/nasty), so it's potential issue... may throw a permanent gauge on outside for future troubleshooting.
So, what's next for that kick in the seat? Another turn on the fuel screw or until just shy of runaway? A turn or 2 of the smoke screw or star wheel?
TIA

Bottom the star wheel, turn it up again, make sure you have full throttle travel on the pump. I am pushing 30+ lbs of boost on a stock H1C with fuel pump tweaks, BHAF and 4" exhaust.
I'll add that the last fill I calculated 21.36 MPG, running it like I stole it, not always but plenty...

The smoke screw helps just a little on low end acceleration, but mainly just when completely stock. Ive tried it between a few of my mods, and have never got anything out of it besides, well, smoke.
Turn the fuel screw till runaway, or not runaway, But turn till it wont turn any more, I have 6+ turns on mine, You have an intercooled truck, and it seems as though they rarely runaway,,, The non-ic trucks have bigger injectors, So keep in mind that you can turn it up all you want, But without bigger injectors you wont see the power or boost you older brothers will see with just pump adjustments, My non-ic rig saw the 45 lb gauge peg with just pump tweaks, Then i blew the head gasket,,,,
Anyway, Keep turning up that fuel screw, Remove the collar if need be to keep on cranking!!! None of these mods will affect fuel mileage, Only your right foot!

Unless your pump is hopped up. There is a point that it makes no difference where the smoke screw is, it's gonna smoke.
I have never done anything with the Torx smoke screw, except back it all the way out, so as to have minimal 0-boost fuel. Need air to burn that fuel.
