New Toy (Injector Tester)
Im running the Lucas injectors in my truck right now, pretty happy with the pop pressure. They burn pretty clean with the timing just back from the head on non i/c pistons. Not really any noticeable power increase tho...
One thing I have thought of is the higher pop/spring pressure might be shutting the pintle early and cutting down on the total amount of fuel being delivered. Maybe this is why the POD's dont seem that much bigger than the stock non i/c's??

Well PODs aren't much bigger than stock non i/c injectors. Stockers are 4x.012 and PODs are 4x.014. It makes sense that they would run better with advanced timing because of the higher pop pressure.
BC,
You might be able to use one of those 5 gallon clear drinking water jugs and cut a 1" hole in the side at the height you need to catch fuel, if it's tall enough.
On edit; I meant to say a water cooler bottle.

Also, the stock injectors tolerated more timing without hazing than the pods will. Narrower spray pattern.
And stock non i/c injectors are 4x13 if im not mistaken.
Well after messing with cold/rainy weather and a nasty round of the flu, I was finally able to check what I have.
As removed the 6x.016" injectors were 1 @ 210 (lowest), 4 @ 220ish, and 1 @230 (highest).
I've gone and set them at 245BAR (+/- 5BAR) . . . as best I could average it.
Right off, it does seem to haze a lot less at idle. WOT smoke is down a little. It seems to be a little more peppy.
It's kinda fuzzy though as I'm still dialing in the M&H timing spacer.
If I can get away from work Thursday before late, I'm hoping to make a few passes at the track to see what it's all good for. 8.15 in the 8th (@ 250') is the starting benchmark to best.
We'll see . . ..

The final re-assembly included placing the individual injector's parts in an ultrasonic cleaner full of cheap injector cleaner fluid for 15 minutes.
All of which was to get them as close to "Dead-On" as I could get them using my POP tester.
It's not that big a deal once you get the hang of the tear-down and re-assembly. The most time consuming was getting the right combination of shims to get to the number I wanted. Based on what I saw with mine, it looked like around .070ish" was the original shim thickness. At the end of the process, I'd increased them all to around .090ish".
Those shim stacks that I removed from mine included shims of right at .005" (the outer diameter edges were coming apart
). The micrometer I used has a resolution of .001".I want to say mine are the VCO type, but I can't swear to it. And I didn't take pictures. I did briefly look at them and thought VCO. I did notice though the pintles looked slightly oval in shape. I recall one nozzle body had a hand engraved number. Another looked as though it had been polished around the larger part of the nozzle.
I may still pull them again over the weekend just to see if they've settled down some (I guess). Perhaps see if they are still +/- 5BAR.
I dunno. Thursday's just around the bend.
Normally on the 24v bodies with sleeves and 12V springs i see about 4-5 bar change in pressure per .001" increase in shim thinkness. they require a thicker stack of shims(usually 3 unless i make specials) so it's easier to come up with the right combo.
Well, while dialing in the injection event timing this past Thursday, the best I could get out of her with the POP set at 245BAR was 8.3 in the eighth. Last years best at that same track was 8.15 (at 220BAR).
I've gone and dropped them back down a little to 235BAR.
We'll see how that does.
- And these injectors are apparently VCO nozzles going by the external shape.
