New to the first Gen. Dodge
New to the first Gen. Dodge
First off i'll just say that this is my first diesel truck i've ever owned. 91 D250 single cab long bed. I dont know too much about them because everyone i know can afford new ones. I'm trying to figure out if there is any way i can lift it. Not a whole lot, but maybe enough to get 33x12.50s under it. I cant find anyone who makes a lift kit for it but was wondering if any of you guys might know how, or if it can be done. Its pretty much stock so I would like to start doing some mods to it. Also the odometer, speedometer, and fuel gauge do not work. Just wondering if its the cluster thats fried or if it is each indivual part. Thanks for any tips.
Check to see if the VSS is still attached to the trans. They have a tendency to loosen up, but luckily there is a crossmember right below the VSS so it may just be laying on there. No VSS signal will kill the speedo/odo/cruise. Fuel gauge is likely the sending unit.
There's info in the sticky about leveling a 2wd.

Yea,that was what I checked and its tight. I've had this truck for about 4 months and at first the speedowmeter was reading too fast. I had my wife follow me in her car and when it said i was doing 55mph, she said i was doing 35mph. when i was doing 100mph, she said i was really doing 70mph.
The speedo error sounds like you are missing the ratio adapter (little "L" shaped gear box between the trans and the VSS).
As far as it not working at all now: Check to make sure the VSS and/or the drive gear are not stripped out. They use a square drive like a speedo cable and those get rounded off after a while.

Ok. The plastic part of the drive gear is stripped out pretty bad on the speedometer. Any idea how much one of these cost, and do i have to get that from a dealer? Oh, and the small gear for the odometer was stripped causing the other problem. Thanks for the info.
