New door seal opinions...

I installed new front door seals on the crewcab last month and I have to say I'm not too impressed. These are the rubber seals between the body and door. The new seals pinch over the sheet metal seam. I bought the front door seal and weather stripping kit from JCW.

Just curious as to other opinions on these seals. I am still having to "slam" my doors extremely hard to get them to latch. I keep fearing I'm going to seriously damage something with all the force required to get the door to latch. Just yesteday I had one of the plastic clips on the rod from the door handle button to the main mechanism shatter due to the slamming.

I'm tempted to go back to the glue on seals so I can acually close my doors normaly.

I had a similar problem with my Ferd many years back.

I found out, by trial and error, that the air filled seals had no way of "escape" of air inside them. I looked on my toyota @ the time, and found small holes that perforated the seal on the side towards the interior. Those holes allowed air to escape from inside the seals upon closing. Hollow seals can trap air and prevent the door from closing.

To this day my toyota doors are somewhat difficult to close, unless the window is cracked just slightly, as to let air escape from the cabin. Upon closing the cabin air pressurizes and discourages the doors from closing all the way. After 18 years of driving the truck you would have thought that I'd figured that out a long time ago.

I don't understand why you're relating the door not shutting to the door seals?

your door striker could just need to be adjusted.

Brandon,

I assumed by his post that the door shut properly prior to installing the seal..

I had to adjust my door post for the new JCW seal kit. The old seals had flattened had to close closer to the frame.

I bought my seals from JCW as well but they fit perfect. I do have to push-close the doors but it seals tight and it's nice a quiet now! Now the window seals I wasn't impressed with.

If I adjust my door strikers out any then the door won't be aligned with the body panels. And I can't stand that! My thinking...and I could be wrong...is that you should be able to close your door normally with the doors and panels aligned.

These seals do have the perforated holes in them to help bleed out the air. I think the "Foam/rubber" is too dense and when squeezed between the door and the body it just doesn't have the ability to compress properly. It becomes quite ridged when you pinch it together between your fingers. Not like the old glue on foam seals.

just put door seals in my truck.can't seem to find the invoice,so i don't know where they came from.says on the bag "made in brazil".they have no holes in them to let the air out.my doors after adjusting shut very well.i got my window anti-rattle fuzzies and window wipers from the same place.they are not so good.hard to fit and the wipers are a little short.

A couple of years ago I got some weather stripping from LMC truck for a 68 chev.
The new gasket was beefy'er than the old stock stuff. Doors were hard to close.
What I ended up doing was taking out the seat and putting 1500 watt heater in the cab for a few days. Worked great.

Could you post the part number for that JCW gasket. For the life me I cant find that gasket on their site.

Thank you

I think the 85 crew cab needs the glue on seals.
Does it close better with the window opened 93 Doors had vents in the jam to help with hard closing.
I had to move the doors around to get it right.

after about 6 months my doors became easier to close. I still have to give a little push.

Yes they are a bit easier to close with the windows open. I had noticed the newer trucks had vents in the doors to help with the trapped air. Guess I'll have to find some of these vents in the junk yard and install them in my doors. I'll also need newer door panels as well to allow an open area in the bottom of the door to vent through?
