Kids, just like adults, should be driving something with some steel around them; something like a big old 98-OLDS or a deuce-and-a-quarter BUICK, or a full-size truck.

Fuel mileage and full-coverage insurance don't mean a thing when you see one in a casket.

Thanks guys. My son is doing well, as is his friend. God was definatly keeping them safe. The cops were amazed that he was OK, and that they didn't go over the wall. An 84' drop would have been less than fun...

The good news, he told his Mom today that he want's a Cummins, and that he should have gone that way to start with.

By the way, I found out today that he actually beat a ZR1 Corvette with that thing. It was WAAAAAAY to fast. We spent the day together and he talked everything out. It was very good.

Dad taught him well.

Nice. It's good that he can talk to you about stuff. I hope my soon-to-be-born daughter will be able to talk to me too.... time will tell.

p.s. Glad he beat that Chevy!

If I had to guess, I'd say Mark meant that his son lost traction to all 4 wheels, possibly due to the turbo kicking in hard. Not a good feeling on blacktop , but great fun on the dirt!

Yes, that's what I meant. I had warned him that is he ever lost adhesion in that car with all wheel drive and being light, he would be in a world of hurt in the next millisecond. I didn't have to tell him "I told you so" because he remembered the stuff I had warned him about right after. I wouldn't have said that anyway.
He want's to hang with me again tomorrow, so I'm taking him with me again. It's all good.

Thats great that he is opening up to you maybe this will form a strong bond that will never end, my 23 yr old son has become somewhat astrainged with a new girl and stoped going to church with us and i can't say anything that he don't become very defensive, we are praying and holding our breath. sounds like your boy might be looking for advice.

We have always had a tight relationship, except one time when he had a toxic girlfriend and when he got this car. We were not astrainged, just the communication shut down quite a bit. Sorry to hear about your son. He should come back if you are patient. Once God is in their heart they come back.

Thanks much. I believe the Bible puts it "to whom much is given, much is expected". Even at my age, I struggle with the horsepower monkey. Although I wouldn't have hit the wall with his car, I would have tee'd someone because I was going too fast. I'll stick with the Cummins. WHat I like about it is I can cruise around getting great mileage but have nearly instant armegeddon at my disposal! Don't wrap it much these days because I can't afford the antifreeze bill. Need to get those studs in with a new gasket.

Anyway, Alex is doing fine, sorness is easing up. Now he's taking about turboing his 1993 Grand Cherokee! I can't win...

Ouch! That sucks. That was a nice car. He got lucky he didn't go over. That turn is fun but it gets tighter as you go around. I just met your son a few weeks ago on Montgomery. I drive an 87 suabru rx. We had quite a bit to talk about between 1st gen cummins and turbo subaru. Glad he is ok. Do you plan on keeping the salvage?

We are letting it go. They want too much for it. I'm not glad he got in a wreck, but I'm glad that car is out of our lives. It was way too fast for a 19 year old. It was too much car for just about anybody. He was talking about getting a 2nd gen, but he is starting to Jonz for another Subaru. I won't stand for it. He can fix up his Grand Cherokee. I think I will buy him a 5 speed for it for his birthday now that he has stick shift fever.
He spoke highly of you by the way!
Thanks,
Mark
