My son got his first stitches

I couldn't believe it. He beat my record, I got my first stitches at age 12. He is only 2½ and got 3 on his forehead. He fell down at daycare, tripped over his own feet. I must have passed to him the ways of being a klutz.

Seriously though.
Glad he's OK.
That's where grey hairs come from.

Oh, trust me, I didn't get any grey hair. My wife gets those. She tends to worry about things way more than I do.

Gotta start somewhere. My son got to endure over 100 in his face last November 2nd. I would post some of the photos here if the admins wouldn't mind. It woulb be more like an educational thing. He was run over by a dirt bike after falling off of his own. His helmet was pulled up by the other kids peg and almost went completely through his cheek.
One of (if no the most) scariest times in my life. They had cold wash cloths on me at the hospital, the nurse said at one point he was doing better than me.

The inital pictures are horrible, almost looked like a softball with the stitching like 50lb test fishing line. Kids heal quickly too, my son only missed 10 days of school, not bad for over $7,000 in medical work.

All you can do is try to prevent the stupid stuff. They're gonna fall, wreck on bikes, bump thier heads, etc. Not much can be done to prevent them from being KIDS!
Be thankful your son is okay. At 2 1/2, that scar will be tiny if visible at all eventually.

Congratulations, JR. Glad it wasn't serious. A few minor things like that early can teach them a valuable lesson - - they can "break".

PJ - - I can join you, buddy - - same here with my daughter when she split her chin wide open falling off her bike. Wow, that hurt me so bad. You don't want your daughter to mess up her face. The boys you expect - - not the girls.

Oh heck, buddy ... that boy's just gettin started !!!!

My middle son (3 yo at the time) took a flying superman leap off of the couch and almost over his stroller. "Almost" is the operative word.
Busted his femur mid-flight . He could sure make his Big Wheel go even with a full leg cast.

It's just the age I think. My "little Man" 2 and a 1/2 went in last week for stitches for a cut by his eye, silly coffee table jumped out at him. They thought the super glue would be best for that. 4 days later he gashed the back of his head falling off a end table into a wicker basket, 2 stitches in the back of the head. This morning we had the stitches removed, we prepped him for 2 days that this wasn't going to hurt like getting the stitches in but it would tickle some only the DR would touch his head. That prepping was the best thing we ever could have done. Getting the stitches in, there was a DR, Nurse, Mom and me holding him down and we could barely keep him still for the 2 stitches. Getting them out after the prepping was me gently holding him in my arms while the DR cut and pulled the stitches, no problems at all.

Watch carefully and clean the would daily for the next week, no baths or if necessary don't wash the hair while bathing and use baby wipes to clean the face and all will be fine.

Bill.

Kids will be kids...

I got my first stitches when I was 5. I was jumping up and down on the bed - like I'd been told not to countless times and I fell and smacked the headboard with my face. My bottom teeth came through my lower lip. It was somewhere around 10 stitches. I don't really remember the pain from smacking the headboard or getting the stitches put in. What I remember most was eating potato chips not long after that. When the salt started stinging the cut, I reached for my drink to try to wash the salt away. It was lemonade. Man, did that sting!

Yeah, usually getting the freezing hurts worse than the cut itself.

I've got a good one from when I was 3.

I was showing off how I could walk backwards (no seriously!) to my mom, and stumbled back towards the dishwasher door that was open and low and behold a steak knife was sticking up went all the way into my back missing my heart by not much.

Didn't hurt at all I must've been in shock. The police also took an axe to our front door because I guess my mom was freaking out so much she couldn't explain what happened over the phone and they thought she had stabbed me!

My God Patrick, not trying to out do us are you?

I got one more, Wanna reminded me (and I still have the hairless spot on my dome).

When I was about 6 I too was a bed jumper. I jumped off and landed head first into a door jamb. Well, once my Mom realized my head was open and there was a bit of Blood, she exclaimed, "Everyone get in the car"! What she neglected to notice was that the kind from across the street had been over playing. Of course when we arrive at Chester County Hospital she was shocked to notice that not only did she have another passenger, but he had very dirty, BARE feet!

That's one that get's told at many a' holiday and family get together.

My youngest daughter is a dare devil who doesn't feel pain. One night I was picking them up from my ex when in their room we heard wump! WAAAAAA! When we went to investigate my oldest was holding her head and my youngest was holding her arm. My oldest was shaken but ok, my youngest had a swolen wrist. I decided to wait and check it again in the morning. The next day when she woke up her fore arm was swolen right in the middle. To the quick care we go and the first thing the nurse said was "I think we have a broken arm here" Then they are eyeing me to see if I am a child abuser, after explaining the chain of events the arm was xrayed and splinted. Several days later the arm was set and in a full arm cast. People really give you some strange looks when your 3 year old daughter has a full arm cast . Then she figured out she could hit things with the cast . She knocked the bones out of set and had to have pins put in . Trying to keep my ex calm while she was in surgery was fun . Anyway she has pin scars to show for it
