more power down low

I need more power down low in the RPMs.
Pulling a trailer it just has nothing below 1500rpm.

I have my pump advanced 1/8" to help with EGTs. Is this the only way to get some low end back though is to back that off? I bought a dial indicator for timming, but have not used it yet. Looks like the HP fuel lines will have to be partially removed to get it in there so I am waiting for warmer weather or a heated shop. What is a good setting for a truck that tows?

How much will swapping on a 12cm housing help? I hope some, I picked one up off a mid 90s truck but have not gotten it done yet. If I give it to much throttle under 1400 it just puts out a black cloud and boggs down.

If I back off the timming I might have to invest in a new 4" exhaust to cool her down (EGTs have to be watched closely now as it is). Stans still about the best deal going for a complete 4"?

Andy

Put the 12cm housing on. you will love it. Instint power down low, no more waiting. Hit the throttle and have instint boost.

Totally, the 12 cm housing should have been stock!! A little adjustment to the starwheel and low boost (smoke) screw and you should have lots of low lug power.

You are going to want a compressor kit to go with the 12 cm because the H1C is going to surge when you work it at low RPM.

I would also recommend changing your injector washers out for the thinnist ~.020 thick. Stock I believe is about ~.060.

I just changed from a 12cm housing back to my 16cm housing. At the same time I changed the injector washers from the ~.090 thick to the ~.020 and spool is faster with the bigger housing, also less smoke at low rpm's.

http://htturbo.com/cu.htm about half way on the page is an upgrade kit. I might just be blowin smoke but i believe that when you have thiner washers it allows for the injector to fire fuel closer to the piston. i may be completly wrong.

The washers are the copper sealing washer between the injector and the head. It drops the injector further into the combustion chamber. This allows you to advance the timing yet still allow for the injector to spray into the combustion bowl in the piston.

At least thats my theory.

Gillette diesel services is where I got my compressor kit from.
