What is this material from do you think? One little chunk came out on the drain plug magnet and I spent 30 minutes fishing the rest out with a magnet. This engine has 300k on it and is still running great with no noises. Found this on a random oil change. This engine had a severe turbo failure in 2010 before I got it. Think it took 9 years to come out?
Thnaks everyone. Its about the size of a silver dollar, a tad smaller. Magnetic. Looks like part of a failed casting. Was skeptical they would linger in the crankcase after 9 years and 7 oil changes but can't think of anything else in engine that would look like this. I checked turbo thats on it now and its mint- smooth as butter. Have run 3 oil analysis over the years on this engine and other than the first one when I got it, they checked out well. Not so much after the turbo failure. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

It was amazing the debris that I found in the 300 SDL, from 2 turbos. Benz put in an angled, second oil catcher/pan just below the turbo oil return line. It was ingenious because 90% of the turbo debris was in that pan. There are many places that debris like that can hide and avoid being drained out during an oil change...Mark
