Congrats on a nice looking truck! I have an auto trans too and not impressed, I think I forsee a NV-4500 or 6 speed in my trucks future. Being an ole truck driver I think I'd be happier. Anyways nice truck and hope you enjoy it. BTW I'm new here too and you have alot of help on here if ya need it, great folks!

Try doing the band and line pressure adjustment along with a fluid and filter change on the trans, maybe it will improve?

The stock torque converter leaves a lot to be desired, but other than that it's a fine transmission. I've never had an issue out of mine. That being said, with you already having to replace the tranny I'd swap an NV4500 in there if you want a manual and a 47rh if you want to keep it an auto.
