looking at 1st Gen

I saw a 1st gen for sale but didnt stop to look at it, but i do know its a reg cab cummins 4x4 by just looking at it but i dont know about the year, im guessing 89-93 its looks mint.
I grabbed the phone # and tomorrow im going to phone for the price and mileage. Then from there if its in my price range ill go look at it. When and if i go look at it, what should i look out for, is there anything i should look out for (tranny, injector pump, etc)

I dont know much about the first gens, but I'm looking forward to probably owning one. Any info is appreciated

dont just go out on a whim and buy it without researching a lil bit. a lil more info on the truck would be a help in determining how much it is actually worth. without what it is actually we cannot help that much. d

look for hidden rust. On the roof near the window seam and the floor boards. If you have the opportunity jack up the front and and check for front end play. If it is an auto take note of how it shifts and feels. Also i would pull the dipstick and take a look at the fluid if it is an auto.

front end play, crooked steering wheel when wheels are straight, find out what year it is and if its intercooled engine. find out some info on the transmission, has it been serviced and taken care of? ever rebuilt?

any recent replaced parts under the hood? ASK

TEST 4X4 !!! low and high range at the guys house. be sure to lock hubs

Look at brake lines for rust, look at condition of power steering lines for rust, also look for cracks on the frame around the powersteering box mount. thats common.

check the emergency brake cable,
check for leaks from the injection pump

Pitman arm leaking seal.

check for door hinges pulling out of the door.
Floor rust
check front rain gutter on top of the cab for rust this is a must
inside rockers/cabcorners

I could go on and on but these are the main hard ones to repair.

report back with pics/ info on truck

Theres no way you can check it without taking the front of the motor all apart. If it runs then theres nothing wrong with the kdp
