Is it just me or is my truck noisy?

I chimed in earlier to the effect that my noise disappears almost entirely when I get off the pedal, ...I figure it's mostly combustion noise as valve rattle should be constant regardless of throttle position. If someone feels the need to disappear this post again I'd appreciate an instructive pm as to why ...

I thought mine was loud too....'till I heard my new neighbor's powersmoke on a cold morning. Takes forever to start, and sounds like somebody filled the crankcase with rocks for the first 10 min or so. Love my truck. No heater grids, 20 degrees, still starts on the first crank.

It may be loud and rattle, but that means it's a REAL truck!

I love the rattle of the 12V.

Mine is the same way... it almost sounds like I shut the truck off But then I just stomp on the go pedal again to hear the sweet music come back

I am planning on doing some noise reduction though, as I have a steel interior and 1hr each way commute... it gets tiresome sometimes

U sure it its a Powerchoke, not an IDI? my IDI is horribly noisy.

I dont know what the heck u guys are talking about! I have 336K on the ticker, and the darn thing, IF the exhaust had a muffler Itd sound like a frickin brand new STOCK honda!!

Now if your taling about straight pipe, thats a whole nother ball game! but still, inside my cab on stacks, I can hear a flea fart!

ITS A DIESEL!

Oh, if yer valve train is making that much noise, its past due for adjusting!

I did some sound deadening to my truck and it made a lot of difference when traveling down the road. My wife likes it a lot better too. It still sounds like a diesel but it doesn't give her a headache anymore which means I don't have a headache anymore .

I stand corrected. Walked over and took a look after reading your post, and it ain't a powersmoker.....idi I guess. REAL loud when it's cold. The only reason mine is so loud in the cab is that I usually leave the rear slider open to hear the roar. But I'm kinda warped. Mufflers, what are those?

LOL, I hear mufflers are part of exhaust systems on gasoline (thats over-refined fuel) engines. Yeah IDI's are pretty clattery, still miss driving mine though, STILL in the shop. GREAT motor, bad wrapper!

Super Quiet 92

My 92 is super quiet! It is sitting in the garage with the ignition off!

When I bought mine new in 92 I noticed that every Cummins on the lot at the Dodge dealer had air conditioning whether it was an LE model or a plain Jane. After about a month of ownership I realized why they all had A.C. You do not want to drive with the windows down!
