Just got my truck, need parts and advice

One or two of you might remember that I posted on here a few weeks ago with questions about suspension differences between 250s and 350s, as well as some questions about crew cab versus regular cab. All of that was to help me figure out exactly what I was looking for. Well, I figured it out and then went and found it. I picked it up last week. It's a '93 W250 crew extra cab. I've already put on the aluminum flatbed with crane that has been living on my '97 1500 V8 2WD for the last 6 years. I'll try to post a picture but I'm not sure I know how yet.....

So, a friend of mine who has a '97 Cummins 2500 recommended that I check out a site called genosgarage.com for guages and filters and other related maintenance stuff. However, when I went there it seems they don't carry any 1st gen goods. Is there somewhere online where you all get filters and belts and hoses and such for your 1st gen trucks? Or should I just go to the local auto parts store? I've also been told to stay away from Fram oil filters... any ideas on that one?

And lastly.. I'll get to doing some performance mods in a little while here. But for now I want to do a few things to the new truck that are more geared towards maintenance and reliability (after all you never know how well your truck was treated before you got it!). Besides general things like oil and filter changes, are there any things you all can think of that would be good to do to this truck to help it live a long and happy life? What's going to break first? (P.S. I'll be doing a LOT of freeway driving, usually with loads, some city driving, and some off-roading once in a while..)

Thanks a lot,
Christian

Well, either I'm not yet allowed to post pix or I don't know how, so in the meantime you can click here if you want to see the truck:

Welcome and nice looking truck.

Fram= just say NO

Geno's has many things for our trucks- just not listed for our trucks

the only other thing I can think of is the KDP (killer dowel pin)
Do a search if your not familliar already and you'll read for days

Good luck,
Michael

You can get your FLEETGUARD oil and fuel filters from Geno's online. Any of the oil filters any years can be used on our trucks. Fuel filter FS1232 if what ya need, nice to keep a spare around too. Or if you have a Cummins distributor nearby, or go to www.Cummins.com for a list of distributors. You can get parts, filters from them. Never use a Fram filter of any kind on anything. Get your belts and hoses from a local parts store. I prefer Napa hoses. A nice belt is a Goodyear Gatorback from Autozone. Keep the old belt as a spare in the truck. Use ONLY Cummins parts on the engine, its not a 360 gasser. BTW its not a crew extra cab. Its just a extra cab or extended cab or club cab. Any quality 15w40 engine oil will do, just change it regularly. Fill is 3 gallons. 11 qts engine 1 qt in filter. Enjoy!

You could always use one of these for your belts

Oh yeah I forgot Scheid ships. Prices are cheaper than most online places for Fleetguard filters. I just walk in and get mine from them though .

Find a truck parts store, that's the easiest way to get filters cheap.

Geno's does stock the all the filters and the belt for our trucks. Any of the oil filters they sell are fine on the 1st gen. The belt is the same up to '02.

Do a valve adjustment on it.

Seems everyone is going crazy over air filters, I don't get it.

I use a Wix filter and dump it every 10,000 miles or so.
I can't see the waste of $ for fancy filters and keep them
for years. I wash my socks and underware but not my filters.
My air filter is only $11.00 my oil filter is $4.00

Someone splane it to me.
