Intake Horn Restriction
Intake Horn Restriction
So Thanks to Soggy and the great job that he did on his intake I decided to have mine redone as well. When I did the swap, I used 3" Intercooler Piping, but when it dropped into the intake it is restricted down to a 2 1/4"ID intake manifold Inlet.
I have a buddy up the road from my lot that owns a welding shop. He took a look at it for me yesterday and said that he could fix it. So I got the intake off and will be taking it to him on Monday along with pics of Soggy's and well see what he comes up with. Even if he can replace the 2 1/2" id to a 3" that would be a big inmprrvment.
Here are some pics so far, well update when I get it back.

Thanks!,..
Yea it is in a Ford (see sig) so I have a little more room, However if you look at the top of the intake horn, the paint is scratched off a little, and I think it does it the hood when I get on it hard and the motor torques.
My buddy said he should have the manifold done on Tuesday.

The only thing that I have to compare it to is when the Cummins was in the Doner truck it was run stock non intercooled. When I installed the motor in my F-350 is when I installed the intercooler and piping so I don't really have a before and after in the same truck.
My point was the intake inlet itself had an inside diameter of 2 1/4", and the intercooler piping is 3". So I wanted to have the intake inlet redone with a 3" intake so there would be no reducer, or restriction.
So I got it back and it is now the same size as the intercooler piping, not much to show but here it is. Just what I wanted.
I realize that any restriction is bad but to you think this will make any difference? I honestly think it is not a difference that i will actually feel,.

No doubt. It's all about volume. I pulled my grid heaters and no, I didn't FEEL a difference but I know I'm moving a tad more air.
I'm just thinking about the claims ATS, Banks and whomever makes about that 'arc or ram flow' effect. Another 15HP and 30 ft. lbs. is valuable if you're trying to milk every last ounce of it. LOL

The cooler tubz on both of my trucks made a big difference. Making a custom intake piece would work but did you keep the intake temp sensor and the intake temp switch. Up here in the Great white north we need the cold weather package.
