well i just got my truck painted and i am spending most of this week putting her back together. but my question is should i tag it historic now that it is eledgable? and which insurance company have you guys had the best luck with/best prices? im only 17 turning 18 in feb. and just want to get the old girl on the road the cheepest way possible. any help would be great, thanks.

 

If you plan on driving it I say put regular tags on it and then take it to a appraiser and have them look it over and appraise it. Most of the time you can insure it for what you have into it but your premium is going to be a bit higher.

In jersey the vehicle has to be 25 years old? PA is only 20 ?

I think theres a small limit you can drive a historic vehicle on the road for, and if you get caught its a big fine.

 

Most states require that historic/antique vehicles only be driven to shows, parades, and for repairs/testing purposes.

 

i've went through this process in pennsylvania, delaware and maryland. Delaware is by far the easiest.
I would go with regular tags...from personal experience, and your rates will be high, put it in your parents name if you can and have them list you as a driver.
Pa if you get a classic(20) or antique(25) tag you can only drive it <5,000 miles a year and only going to an "event" and none of which you can drive at night. Although there is a way around this, make sure you belong to many groups, and have a few different booklets of dates and places. I uses to use the excuse i'm just going to my favorite gas station... and make sure its in the direction im headed. Then get a gas reciept if the insurance company calls you. Most of the time as long as your not driving at night they don't bother even calling your insurance company. Most cops will though, esp if you EDIT them off :-X

In maryland its a one time inspection for cars older than 10 years, right? Once it passes thats it, right? I spent 1,400 trying to get mine to pass, after i had a trans fixed and exhaust welded up.

I'll check with my insurance. The company I'm going through for classic doesn't care how many miles or when it's driven. Could drive it in the winter if I wanted to. IIRC its around $250 for the year.

 

well it was my dads truck and i bought it from him and now that it is ready he wants everything to be on me, we are going to get the title switched over and ill need to be on my own insurence. i was just thinking of historics because of the cost and the cops around here dont really bother you...my friend had historics on his blazer for over a year without problems. but what about street rod tags? should they be an option? i know there is no limits on ride hight/tire size but are there any driving restrictions? thank you all for the help so far. there is allot to think about with this crap

 

In Wi you can't drive during the month of January, OR TOW!!! Check that before you make your work-horse a car. lol

lol thanks, me and my mom called around and got insurence the other day. i ended up going with the little green guy. i got my bumpers an visor on tonight so once i put the door pannels on i can grt it inspected some time this week maybe.
