injectors

A while back my truck started intermittently spewing white smoke. I checked for air leaks and found none. Decided one night that it was maybe injectors, so listening to each I decided that number 5 was not functioning like the rest. I pulled this injector and swapped in another from my other truck to see what difference it made. It seemed to help. I have now ordered a set of Bosch 190's from Industrial Injection. I called them to just check on the spray angle and such. The guy I talked with said that the spray angle was 131 and they were a 5x.10. the 5x.10 sounds right to me but whats up with that spray angle. I ordered them any way because I'm almost sure the dude is wrong on this and they are available in Canada quickly. Is there any way to verify the spray angle on the injector once it comes? Should I maybe just cancel this order?
Just for info my truck is a '90 with a 5 speed. The engine is an intercooled 5.9 from a 92. The pump and turbo is off my 90 and has no intercooler on it. Also have a BD pin and a 366 spring and pump turned up a little.

I miss spoke the injectors I ordered were Bosch 50 hp. 0432131837-IIS was the part number. They are a 7MM nozzle with a 1.5 MM washer.

I can't find any information out, but I highly doubt the 131 is correct. Those things have been out there forever and if the angle was incorrect, it would be all over the Internet.

That was kind of what I was thinking. I was also thinking that chances are that because they were a 7mm nozzle that they would be the correct spray for an intercooled piston. I was also thinking that these would flow a little more fuel than the stock intercooled injectors that are currently in my truck, maybe more like the non intercooled injectors that were in the old engine.

I will check the numbers on the body when the get here. Do any of the numbers on the side indicated spray angle, hole size and such?

I got a set of those +40 hp last winter from a diesel injection outfit in nw PA. Can't remember specific info about them such as spray angle, but they haze more than stock (kinda expected) and with core exchange they cost $350.- approx. Gotta love that engine: pricing a set of sticks for a duramax is quite shocking in comparison

Nothing obvious in the part number as to their specs. I haven't found any lists decoding their part numbers yet. What info I do have is by hands on measurements. The numbers on the body can't be assumed as accurate unless they came directly from Bosch for a specific application. Nozzles can get changed when passed through other sources.
For example, my 91.5 had a set of non-intercooled bodies by the part numbers but had 370 marine 155° nozzles. Back in the early days before all the after market that was how it was done. The Bosch "190" have been known to come in a 4 or 5 hole configuration. It is unclear weather this was a Bosch thing or some after market substitute.

Hmm, thats kind of too bad those part numbers aren't more useful in determining what is actually in said injectors.

Injectors arrived today. Had a look and it appears that nothing the guy on the phone told me is accurate. Injectors are in fact a 4 hole not 5 like he said.

Talk to Mark at dieseltuff.com. Some of the best injectors you can buy and very fairly priced. Run as clean as stock and hit way above their weight class in performance.

Same thing happened to me and I took that as an excuse to get new Bosch injectors. I've been running the 190s for a while. Not sure if they are 4 or 5 holers though. When I had the head off a couple years ago to replace the head gasket the patterns on the pistons looked like they were supposed to.

A good friend of mine had a injector fail on his 02 Duramax. Dealer quoted him $7,700 to change all 8, local diesel garage quoted $4,400 with a part price of $1,200.00. I didn't have the heart to tell him I got mine on a Black Friday sale for $325 shipped and they took less than a hour to change out.

Granted a somewhat modern duramax is quite a bit more refined than my 12V but I was out boondocking last weekend while his truck was spread out all over a shops floor.

Yea, gotta love simplicity. A good example of why we need to keep these machines alive.

I'm not a conspiracy theory type of guy but geez this seems to be the master plan. Make new vehicles so complicated you have to have a shop do it or buy a new one...

I know a lot of it is driven by the effort to achieve efficiency and reduce emissions but there's a lot of creature comforts and features just because we're too dumb or lazy to do it our self now in there now too. These new vehicles seem to have some Rube Goldberg engineering...

Sorry for digressing.

Funny it was just the other day I was commenting to the little women about how I didn't understand the Buick commercial where the guy is looking for any reason to drive his car. "Why would anyone want to just drive that?" I said. She said, "Honey, not everyone wants to drive a smelly, loud, smoking, rattling, rough riding pickup truck, but it's one of the reasons I love you."

So back off guys, she's all mine.
