i would say either a 72 or 87 chevy pickup with a 12 valve and getrag....or just get a brand new truck whatever you like pull the drive train and drop in the drivetrain out of my 92 (12valve getrag, np205 with a gearvendors, dana 60 and 70 with 3:55s)....then i wouldnt have to worry abt body work, rust, rot......
but i love my old gal...ill never sell it

Since I mostly use my truck for towing I would probably buy the next best thing, like a mid 80's to early 90's Mack R model with an EM6 or EM7 engine, twin screws, and a Maxitorque 5spd with an air splitter or a Quad Box so I could spend all day shifting like this --

A Hemi Orange/white roof 71 Crew long box 2WD single rear wheel. I has a Gasser with a 511" wedge, straight axle and all. I just loved that truck!
With a 6bt and a 4500, it would be my dream truck.

I had half a dozen first gens over the years, all gassers, and learned to live with their quirks like ballast resistors, ignition modules, automatic chokes and sagging doors. The heater box was good for keeping beverages chilled lol.Pretty crude by today's standards though.
Our new to us third gen diesel is worlds apart in comfort and performance. Solid, quiet, and the doors close properly. We just returned from a twelve day vacation pulling the fiver, could not be happier.
