I Heard it I HEARD IT! (Tranny Cooler Fan)

Well, I guess it works! Was backing my tandem axle flatbed trailer up a steep, slick hill to pick up a big propane tank and the tranny cooler fan kicked on. At first I thought now what the hell is that? Then I remembered reading here that some trucks came with one. I'd seen the honkin' big cooler up under the fender well, but didn't know if it had a fan. Well it does and it seems to work. Matter of fact, I've heard it 3 times in the past month. Been hauling a lot over to the new digs in NM. Checked the fluid level immediately and its full and clean.
Truck has been entirely invaluable for this move. I've loaded the hell out of it for 1/2 dozen 500 mile trips and it just does not care.

Since I removed the muffler, I've renamed it: BLORT

That could be both good & bad...

Good: At least it's working...
Bad: If it's cutting on at the reported switch temp of 270*F = tranny that's cooking itself to death, QUICKLY!

You're thinking of the OD lockout switch.

There is a temperature switch that will kick the tranny out of OD when the temp reaches 270. Trans stays much cooler in 3rd so it automatically kicks out at 270 to prevent damage. Although, as you stated, by that time its too late

I've got the optional dealer installed tranny cooler up under the bed also. The temp switch that kicks the fan on went on the blink during a trip hauling some steep grades, smoked the tranny After rebuild $$$ I installed tranny temp gauge and wire the fan to a toggle switch. Now if the temp gets around 200-210 hit the switch and it drops to around 160-170 depending on outside temp. Sounds like an air plane taking off but keeps her cool, even in overdrive.
