HTT Stage IV

Just a little quick question for anyone who did a turbo upgrade kit to the H1C's. How is the compressor wheel connected to the shaft of the turbo? Is it just a bolt or something easy like that? I just got the Stage IV kit in today and plan on putting it on thursday as well as the intercooler....Hopefully i can take lots of pics..............

the nut on the compressor side comes off (left-hand threads!!!!!!!!!). you'll need a large 12 point to hold the turbine side so you can get the nut off. i can't remember what size but 3/4 or 17mm sounds familiar. once you get the nut off, the wheel just slides right off. have fun!

So i can't do this without taking the exhaust housing off to hold the shaft? Is there a certain torque spec, or just tight?

Is there any other way to hold the shaft without going on the turbine side?

Pipe wrench on the old compressor wheel?

the nut (sort of) that you have to hold is cast into the end of the shaft. iow, it's on the end of the turbine wheel. you will not have to remove the exhaust housing. are you planning on doing this on the vehicle or something? if so, you'll just need to disconnect the downpipe to get access to what you need. torque? they should have included instructions, no? it's something like 160 INCH pounds i think.

don't forget the reverse threads!!! the first turbo i took apart, that nut sure was on TIGHT. i ended up snapping the shaft. good thing it was a core.

According to Holset, you should mark the wheel and the shaft so you can put the wheel back on in the same position. That's because the H1C was balanced as an assembly. Later turbos had the wheels balanced separately and can be assembled in any position. DON'T slide the shaft out unless you're planning on replaceing the ring seal. It's hard to get back in and you may damage it.

You can DL the rebuild manual from the Holset site that gives you all the info you need such as torque specs and shaft play etc... Also, you can buy a rebuild kit of bearings
and seals etc for around $65.00.

For the hx35 if it has a 12pt nut the torque is like 135inlb and if its a 6pt nut its 150inlb. Or it could be reversed!! I have to double check when I get home. But if you torque the one thats supposed to be 135inlb to 150inlb you'll break the shaft!!

Call htt and ask them they should help you out no prob!! and the info should be correct for sure.

Paul at HTT said it didn't matter H1c/HX-35 it just matters how many points the nut is..

Your good at guessing

well I got a wheel and housing from another place and he gave me the instructions over the phone. This was about a month ago and I still haven't put it on yet, I was just going from memory. I new I had the right torque values, I just wasn't sure about which nuts they went to.
