How much oil does the first gen take??

I just changed the oil, filter and the fuel filter. I put in three gallons= 12 quarts. I put a quart in the oil filter before i put it on and then put the rest in the oil fill. After the 12 qaurts, the oil is on the dash mark on the low side of the safe reading. My 01 takes 11 quarts and that is with filter and it is perfect every time. Should i add another quart or leave it where it is? Thanks

the newer pans hold 1 qt. less than the first gens. run it a couple. let the engine drain back to the pan a few minutes, then add till it is at least halfway in the crosshatched area.

Everyone claims three gallons, but none of mine are up to FULL on the stick with three-gallons.

To show full, it will take fourteen quarts.

Some also say that the center-point of SAFE is best level to run.

The dipstick was reading full before i changed the oil, but i dont know how much oil was in there, first time changing oil since purchased. I will let her sit overnight and check in it the morning, make sure she has drained all the oil down and then go from there.

Thumbs up

About a dozen litres does it. Two and a half gallons (imperial) Actually I never count. I just fill from a variety of containers, all kinds of sizes and then start it and check the level after it has drained down a bit.

It is really important that the truck be level when you check the oil. The slant to my driveway makes oil seem much higher than it really is.

I just went out and checked it, just below the top line of the safe zone. I also noticed that the dipstick does not seat all the way in, looked at the dipstick and it looks like the inside of the T-handle is broken not allowing it to seat all the way. I have 12qts in it and i think i will leave it alone and check it at each fuel stop. Thanks for the help
