Gear position indicator adjustment???
Gear position indicator adjustment???
I had a remote start keyless entry unit installed in my truck today and when I picked it up from the shop, I noticed that the little red line is off to the left a bit so when it's in D the needle is on N...I talked to the installer at the shop and he said there's nothing he would have done to make it do that, which makes sense...is there any way to get it back into the correct position?
There is a very small cable that goes from the indicator to the steering column. If you remove the dash bezel (the plastic around the guages) and look directly below the indicator you should see a small cable with a little metal clip attached to the end and it should go to the steering column at the shifter (this part of the column moves with the shifter) you can move the small clip which ever way is necessary to get the shift indicator in the correct position. I always found it easiest to put it in neutral and then adjust the cable so that the indicator is directly in the center of the "N".
I hope that this explanation is understandable because it's been a very long day for me.

It sounds harder than it is. Once you get the bezel off look just above the column but right below the indicator and you should see the cable that I am referring to.
Good luck

Mine was off after I did the white faced gauges in my Ramcharger. I tried to move the clip but it proved to be a bit stubborn. I ended up just bending the part that the string attaches to until it lined up good.
Mine was off so I just swapped in a manual tranny.....
I adjusted mine several times, before and after the white face gauge and anytime I pulled the speedometer out it got off. Mine just used a piece of wax string.
