How long does your oil stay clean?

What helped my motor was when my up seal blew out and pumped a gallon of diesel in the oil......then changed it and oil but didn't loctite the seal so it filled it again after that my oil was beautiful....lol

There might be quite a bit of variation in engines. specifically ring seal. I've found over the years that when new or just overhauled, as soon as yer sure it isn't going to throw parts at you (about 10 miles) you need to drive it like you stole it to seat the rings. If not they'll always use a little oil or crud the oil up with carbon quickly.
Common sense also that if they smoke, they're going to get more carbon in the oil. The oil is made to hold a fair amount of carbon without damage, but must be changed regularly just for that reason unless extreme filtering (ie centrifugal) is used.

when i first got my truck my bro-in-law worked at an oil bulk plant, i got a couple 5 gl buckets of oil and did 3 oil changes in a week of driving, then put in the oil of choice and it stayed clean for a few thousand miles, but i pull loads quite often and have some extra fuel now so not very long.
