Unhappy Hole in Oil pan.

Like the title says. Got as small one near the front just in front of the cross member if you look straight up. It only drips a little but... Mama dosen't like oil stains in the garage/ driveway. It appears to have been welded before but I ain't got time to pull the pan and fix it right before winter.

I'm thinkin' Clean it REALLY well and JB weld it until such time as I can pull the pan and get it welded. I'm not setup for welding here.

Any other suggestions?

TIA

JB Weld will work, if you can get it to adhere to the pan.

It sounds like the pan is rotten and needs to be replaced.

JB weld for sure. I'd say clean the area with whatever solvent you choose at first, but use acetone or brake cleaner right before you put the JB to it. That'll leave the least possible residue.

I think you can get JB weld in a putty can't you?

Drain the pan, let it sit a couple days, clean it very well with your choice of cleaners mentioned, and I would use JB Waterweld. Some say Seal-All, others say that epoxy gas tank patch stuff with the cloth.... JB worked the best for me, although mine still leaked in about 5 places on my GM truck..

I vote for JB Weld too.

Get a new pan, the pan has plastic laminated between two layers of steel for noise control. Welding it is not really practical.

I used J B weld on a broken intercooler for one of my 3406 cats. Workin fine so far. I also have put epoxy steel putty on a borge warner boat tranny that rusted the case out. As said above, empty, clean clean clean, make sure it is ruffed up for the putty to have "teeth " to hang on to.

I would JB weld it, but watch out it happened to me about 2 months ago. my oil pan rusted bad enough to fall apart on the highway. it normally cuases severe engine damage also.

I had my oil filter rust through once and I do change my oil. Had a nice stream of oil comming out. Luckily I saw the oil in the driveway leading to where I parked.

When they (at work) need to patch a tank (hydraulic, diesel & water) they put a shop vac on the tank to stop the leak and use JB Weld. Seem to work well.

Pans not rotton, just has a hole in a previous weld.

I found some epoxy similar to JB that calims to be for metals. Made by permetex. I cleaned the dog snot out of the area and then did it again. Mixed up the epoxy and worked it into the hole as best as I could then let it set. Near as I can tell it's working.

I'll update in a few days.

Thanks again for the opinions/expertise.

Cleaned the heck out of it. That must have been clean. The vacuum was also a very good suggestion. I generally clean the heck out of it, epoxy it, and put tape on to hold shape while curing. You will be satsified. If not, just do it again with more snot removal. JMHO
