Question Help; need a power steering return hose (complete)

I finally got around to rebuilding my vacuum pump (with Peter Gould's kit) and installing a remanufactured power steering pump as well as a new oil pressure sending unit. All went well except I twisted in two the fitting (aluminum tubing) that attaches the PS return hose to the steering box.

The local parts stores seem to list only "bulk hose" for the PS return line but I need a compete hose unit, including the fitting that attaches the hose to the steering box. My new pressure hose (supply line) includes that fitting and works fine.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I'll phone my Dodge dealer tomorrow to see if the part is still available.

TIA.

Jim

A hydraulic shop can hook you up with the fittings and hose you need.

Can you re-use the hardline portion of the old high psi line and splice in a chunk of oil rated hose for the return? The return is low psi so you dont need crazy high psi crimp fittings, some hose clamps should hold fine.

That's a great suggestion but unfortunately I twisted that one off as well. (Yes, they were both old and inflexible.) Because the high pressure repalcement line came complete, twisting it in two was no big deal.

Thanks David; I've just located a hydraulic shop in Marietta I'll phone tomorrow. I fear our forum will soon become primarily a help desk for those of us looking for unavailable parts.

And yes, I still love my truck.

Thanks again.

I just did this.

If its the RETURN line.

Go to napa and ask for a return line for a 93 D250 5.9L gasser

What you'll get is the exact same line as a diesel EXCEPT the gasser line will have a little bit longer hose, solution is get out a knife and take .02 seconds to cut the extra rubber hose and WABAM! return line, brand new.

the bend and everything where it goes into the box is EXACTLY the same as diesel. its kind of a joke them even listing a seperate part number for the diesel return line (its discontinued and extinct.)

Brandon:

The NAPA Online website shows only a "universal" hose for the return (that is, the hose only without the fitting that connects to the steering box). Any chance you can find me a part number?

Thanks,

The part is on "indefinite backorder" from Dodge -- ETA unknown.

That did it -- while I waited the local hydraulic shop fabricated me a new fitting. Took about 15 minutes. I hose clamped it to a new hose and am back on the road.

Thanks again; don't know what I'd do without this forum.

NAPA part number- NPS 7-2402. Cost $10.50. I had to spend 20min looking through a book and finding the one that looked right, and had the right measurements.
