Getting the right gauges...?
Getting the right gauges...?
Hi guys,
Looking at Ispro gauges for my old Dodge with stock 4BT. I have, but haven't installed, an HTT Stage II turbine and will be turning up the screws a bit. Will be used for a lot of towing, pretty heavy load. Looks like good prices at Oregon Fuel Injection.

Will be getting R3607GR-6K Pyrometer but not sure on Boost. They have 0-15, 0-30, 0-40 lbs boost. At some point I may quit fulltime RV towing and turn up the screws even more, but probably never crank it up real super high. What range of boost gauge would cover it for the tweaked stock 4BT with Stage II on a H1-C? 0-30? Any ideas where this thing will be on boost pressures? Thanks...

I'll be hauling a heavily loaded 26' Travel trailer with a pretty good load in the truck too. Haven't weighed it out yet.
The truck is a '67 Dodge D-100 Town Wagon with upgrades to 3/4 to 1 ton. '90 Cummnis 4BT, custom 3" exhaust, '96 NV4500, original '67 hydro clutch slave mounted to side of NV using original clutch master, Tom Wood's Custom driveshaft with Spicer 1410's, Dana 60HD [ribbed case] with 4.1 final, Reverse Elliot 1 ton front axle, new Eaton Detroit 3,000 lbs front springs, '78 D-200 rear springs with added progressive overload spring packs and coil-over shocks, extra frame supports under floor pans [in pics] and new 3/16" floors [in pics], 26 gal aluminum fuel tank, lots of structural upgrades and mucho body work etc. etc.
A good friend, Mopar Norm, has the largest Dodge truck photo album on the internet. He posted a few pics of mine, scroll down to #38 thru #43 inclusive, and #58-#66 inclusive if you want to see what it looks like. Still finishing it....

Man that thing is SWEET
!! I've been doing a swap in a Scout for two years now. I was broke here while back and my friend smelled weakness. He waved some money around and POOF the 4bt was gone. He did it justice though and did his conversion. Hes running an H1C w/ 12cm ng. some PODS and some pump tweakage. He just ordered his guages today and he'll have em on by the weekend. When he lets me know the numbers Ill post em. About the towing deal, let me know how that goes, I've often wondered if the scout could do some towing once converted. I've got the NV and all the crap to bolt it up just need a motor...............again!!

You'll get it, bud, you'll get it!
There's really no question on the towing. Going over to the Towing & RV forum or in other posts you'll see some jaw-dropping loads that CTD 6's are hauling! I mean, 25-30K!?! WOW! So in most cases divide by three, multiply by two, and that's what a 4BT can haul. I know I can haul anything with this 4BT that my built 360 would pull and I'm stock, no tweaks.
Also depends on how big a hurry you're in. I'd say a 4Bt is not the tow motor for hooking a heavy load at 75-80 on the interstate, but I also don't believe that's a very good idea in the first place. Some guys don't give it a second thought but there's no doubt it takes a LONG ways to stop 30K.

Well there is only so much a 4bt can pull and a Scout can safely haul. Im not looking for much just a trailer here and there. Spring over suspensions are cool for lift but suck for towing..........real fishy. Im getting there on the motor, Ive got a P pumper with air to water that ive been sniffin' out. We'll see
Hmmm, that sounds like the 215 HP that KTA just mentioned elsewhere! Slick!!
I don't know on your spring-over viewpoint. That's stock Dodge setup for decades and can work VERY well. The big deal is springs, or blocks for lift? Also spring rating and shocks for offroad articulation sure aren't what you want for towing, so maybe that's where the squirrely part comes in. With the right hitch, springs and shocks spring-over can be rock solid and very safe/reliable. Also offroad types of tires for crawling etc aren't the choice for towing so all of this has to be considered I guess.
Man, get that engine!!!
