fuel line upgrade
a friend of mine tells me he can get stainless braided fuel line for close to nothing and could make me lengths with fittings and all if i give him sizes and whatnot. i know that most run the -6 (3/8) hose but what i need to know are the fitting sizes and styles i'd need. i'd like to run a line from the LP to the filter head and from the filter head to the pump inlet. however, i'm not sure if a straight fitting can be installed on the LP without coming into contact with the block or if there is enough clearance for one. i'm thinking about putting a 90* fitting in it and of course would probably have to take it out to do so but that's no issue.

so i'm trying to gather a parts list.
so far i know i'll need a metric adapter in a M12 x 1.5 size for both the injection pump inlet and the outlet from the fuel filter, correct? is the stock adapter on the pump still used with the M12 x 1.5 fitting, or is it removed and the new fitting used in it's place? does anyone have any pictures of their setup (maybe a step by step assembly) that could help me better identify what i need and how each fitting is installed? i've been reading about speed seals, adjustable and non-adjustable, hose ends and not sure what exactly the differences between the 2 are, other than the obvious. what is the adjustment for? swivel-seals, auto-fit... i don't know what is best
as of now, i'm only going to build a line from the filter to the injection pump. from the LP to the filter will be later.

You have a piston LP? They have a 14mm x 1.5 outlet. Vulcan Performance has the fittings.
I used straight metric o-ring - JIC adapters. Have a 90* hose end coming out of the LP. Had to clearance the tappet cover. I did use 1/2" hose and -8 fittings.
You will remove the factory adapter in the IP, and install an AN/JIC adapter or a hose barb. Some people use a straight hose end/ fitting. I have used 90*'s.

I have the correct fitting to fix that mess^.

IMO you want to get male o-ring-AN/JIC adapters and Female swivel hose ends. Are they talking adjustable 90* fittings?

thanks for the pics and help dave and curt. so i think i'm understanding right...
i'll need 2 of these -6 to M12 x 1.5 adapters:

and -6 to -6 swivel seal hose ends (angle can vary):

am i on the right path now? the hose end doesn't need to be a special type for stainless braided hose does it?

well here's what i got. the -6 my friend always gets is aircraft grade .040" wall thickness teflon liner, stainless braided hose. he picked up some eaton hose ends as well. according to www.anplumbing.com they are "speed seals" which use an olive or sort of a compression ring which seals the hose under the socket of the fitting.

i plan to use this 90 deg. swivel fitting (M12x1.5 to -6) off of the pump:

from that fitting, i'm thinking i'll run an adjustable 90 deg. aluminum speed seal hose end (-6 to -6) to run the hose close to and parallel with the pump:

between there and the filter head, i'll use the fittings i got to run a coupler (-6 to -6) which is tapped in the middle (1/8" NPT) to run a pressure gauge (in the near future).

i'll run this straight adapter out of the filter head and probably use another 90 deg hose end off of it.

it's gonna be somewhat pricey, but i've saved quite a bit already having gotten the hose and fittings from my buddy for nothing! i think the stainless braided hose will look nice under the hood too!
