LP problem after 3/8 fuel line upgrade

Just installed 3/8-06AN fuel line kit added a fuel pressure gauge and replaced the fuel filter. Truck started right after purging the air through the gauge T up with no smoke or rough idle.

With the gauge in I am now getting a reading of about 6PSI while the truck is idling. If i do an air purge cycle, the LP quickly lists the pressure to about 18PSI for the full 25 seconds.

This is the first time i have taken a fuel pressure reading since owing the truck but From everything I have read I believe that I should replace the LP.

Before I drop $150 on a new LP, I thought that I would ask for some advice.

Thanks in advance,

Bfrank

with 3/8 i get 15-17 psi, when i put the 1/2 line -8an i get 4-5 psi, go figure.....the smaller the line the higher the pressure and reduced volume. increase line size u will get reduced pressure and higher flow....just get a holley blue and be done with it.thats my next pump.

Not exactly sure what you mean by an "air purge cycle" unless you are talking about opening the drain on the filter while the pump is running. If it shows 18 psi when you do the 25 second run it should be around there at idle. I would be suspicious of the gauge install to start with. What type of gauge and do you have an isolator with it? The isolator can cause trouble with incorrect readings if the diaphragm is not pushed ALL the way to the fuel side. I use the eraser end of a pencil on the type Vulcan sells. Won't damage it that way. BTW, welcome to the site.

The gauge is a Stewart Warner 1-16 psi 2" mechanical Fuel Pressure Gauge with no isolator.

The Air purge was done by opening the gauge valve without the gauge on until I got a steady stream then closed before the cycle completed. In the 25 second run I got 2L of fuel.

The fuel line Kit I installed can be viewed, it includes details on the LP relocation etc...

I am thinking that I may buy the replacement pump, if there is no change in PSI after I install it, I will have a good spare.

Thanks for your help,

Problem Resolved!

Thank you all for your advise.

The lift pump was bad, after being replaced, I am getting a solid 13 PSI idle and 10 WOT.

If I had not done the 3/8 fuel line upgrade and gauge I am confident that I would be shelling out another 2k for an IP in the near future.
