Question Fuel Gauge ??

Early 91 D-350, the gauge don't work, but the LOW FUEL light does.

What is the most likely culprit, the sending unit or in the dash ??

Thanks.

Sending unit. To be sure, ground the dark blue/yellow wire at the sender. You should show a very full fuel tank.

Do I do this with the wires plugged to the sender, or un-plugged ??

Thanks.

I grounded the blue/yellow wire and the needle went way past FULL.

I had the whole assembly out, for other reasons, and I can see no reason why the gauge shouldn't work, but I am no electronics expert.

Somehow, in the process, I lost my LOW FUEL light.

It came on intermittently a few times, with the unit not in the tank, but the wires plugged in; but, after sliding the unit back in the tank, no light.

Can I repair this sender or is that impossible ??

Thanks.

Question

I tried to repair mine with no luck.... not sure how it is presenting resistance unless it is the material that the thing is made of... or built into it somehow... I actually busted mine to see if there were any internal resistive wires or something in there and I couldn't see anything... I am still curious to know how it works....

You get the little gizmo with the float.

Original p/n is 52004932, allegedly superseded by 52017992.

Should be around $50.

I think I will make me a dipstick.

Or do like I do on some of my other rigs and use a notched tobacco stick.

Thanks for the part number.

If that is just another fancy word for being financially challenged, then you can say that again.
