Fuel Pressure Gauge & Gauge Pod

Remind me to NEVER go to another 4x4 shop for work on my poor truck. Spliced wires (twisted and taped), stripped zerts, cross threaded bolts, and crooked & leaking pyro probe.

Needless to say, I'm P/O'ed!!! Anyhow, I found all that when I installed my new 3-gauge pod in preparation of my new fuel pressure gauge install. I've never installed one of these. Does anybody have any tips, or basic idea of how it installs? It's a Stewart-Warner Maximum Performance 15 psi gauge with an electronic sending unit.

If anybody is interested, my old 2-gauge pod is up on e-bay:

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Somebody skilled and knowledgable needs to start a diesel shop somewhere closer to me. I think the closest one is a good 5 hour drive.

I don't know if the Warner electronic sending unit is a better unit than the Autometer. I had problems with the sending units with Autometer. I tried mounting it in various locations and had three go bad. I ended up making a mount to put it on the firewall. I also mounted the sending unit in heavy rubber tape to reduce any vibrations to the unit. My last sending unit was working for about a year and a half mounted this way with no problems. The other units had failed within a month of being installed.

The fuel pressure guage is the easiest one to hook up. Check genosgarage.com. They now sell a Stainless fuel canister cap that has a schrader valve built right on top of it. It won't get much easier than that!!

I remember reading about Autometer not recommending their fuel pressure sending units for diesel applications.
One day I will probably add a Westach fuel pressure gauge.

I just put in a Westach fuel pressure gauge and installed it where the cig lighter was. I purchased a banjo bolt and installed it on the bottom of the fuel filter canister with a grease gun hose so I could read post filter pressure. Looks and works good.

Ive installed 2 autometers so far without any problems. On my 01 its been on for a few years now, the 04 only about two months. I used the Billet cap from Genos on the 04, It makes install really easy but it measures pressure before the filter.

Is the cap you're talking about the Banjo bolt? I can't find a cap on their site?

Thanks,

David

The cap is on the top of the canister. It is the lid that you take off to change the filter. A banjo bolt is a bolt with holes in it so the fuel can go through it.

Electric senders typically do not hold up well under the hood of a Cummins due to the heat and vibration. You will want to remote mount your sender to the fender or other protected area away from heat and vibration. You can get some information about the installation and banjo bolt location by down loading our gauge install pdf file from our website http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/gauges

The cap is in Genos catalog but may not be on the site yet. Just call them....
