Frito Lay?
Frito Lay?
Has any one tried using the 19.5" rims off of old frito lay style delivery trucks. They have an 8 on 6.5" lug pattern and the price is right, I'm thinkin have a machine shop mill the middles, and be able to run a real tire. Any thoughts or previous experience with this?
It depends on the rim. Some of those 19.5's will bolt straight on with no mods.
I have a set of 19.5 rims that bolt on with no mods. My rims are made by firestone.
You might want to check on tire prices before you jump on those rims. I checked a few months ago. The cheapest 19.5 I could find was $260 per tire.
I don't have them installed. So I don't have pic's or anything.

The Frito-lay trucks use Chevy/GM wheels with the smaller center hole. Tire od depends on the tire used. Most were slightly under 32" tall. The sidewalls have very little flex are are an on highway tire by design. I have three of those trucks here and you would be surprised how easy it is to get stuck on a slight grade with wet grass!

They handle quite good with very little sway in a larger truck. I never noticed the ride because when you drive a step van you are busy all the time remembering there's an extra 1-1/2 feet of body on each side and with the noise drumming in your ears combined it over rides all of the other factors!
