Foaming Fuel

What causes this?
The past 3 times, at 3 different stations, when i've gone to top off my tank, it foams up so bad that I can't get more than 1/2-3/4s of a tank. The it starts bubbling out if I don't get the cap on quick enough. So what gives? The first time I thought it may have just been the fuel at the station, but now that its happened at three different places...

Too much soap in the tank? I've really never heard of this. Probably someone else has. The only thing I can come up with is if you're introducing air into the fueling system somehow, then the return, which might be submerged, blows bubbles in the tank? Just a wild guess.

Maybe try a different fuel station. Could be some cruddy diesel got into the station you use regularly?

If you use the smaller car sized nozzles this is more of a problem. Go to the big rig side of the station and use one of those. There generally twice the size in diameter and cavitate the fuel less. Also there is a return vent line mod that you can do but I don't know the particulars.

You should also try to put it on the slowest fill rate as well. Diesel foams up, I've noticed this too, I just try to fill it slowly. There is a bunch of air in the tank. Rock the truck back and forth, that will get some air out as you top it off.

Diesel is famous for foaming. The farm stores and fuel depots 'round here sell anti foam to help with this issue. The most you can do is fill up during the coolest part of the day and fuel slow. Dont use the little tag thing on the pump that holds the handle down for you just pull it back part way and take your time. I usually wait a couple of minutes and then top it off again.

Your problem may not only be the foaming. I experienced great difficulty get fuel into the tank. One day it took me an hour to get a few gallons into the tank. Took it to a dealer in Port Angelus and they removed the fill tube and unstuck the ball which prevents fuel from gushing out when you fill as well as siphoning. The Mechanic said if it does it again hit the pipe with a hammer to free it. It can stick closed as well as open.
Hope this will be of some help

Well, I think I figured it out.
Turns out my rear strap was broke that holds the tank up. This caused the back of the tank to sag, and the fuel fill hose and vent were pinched against the frame. I'm hoping that getting the tank back up where it should be will releive the problem.
